Look What's New at the Ohio Outdoor Experience

Great fishing over the weekend

Lots of fishes caught during the weekend, including both a large brookie (18") and a rainbow of over 7 lbs. Lots of rainbows from the recent stocking and the resident fish appear to be fattening up for the coming winter months!

Tournament a great success

Trout were stocked last week at OOE throughout the stream and ponds. 16 anglers caught almost 200 trout during 6 hours of fishing, including a number of fish over 20". The browns are moving into the creek to spawn are much more aggressive. I fished Saturday and caught more than 20 fish in a couple of hours. Both of my angling companions landed rainbows over 20". With the water being fed from springs, the stream rarely freezes and the pumps generally keep the ponds open when the weather gets really cold. Many 20" and larger trout are caught during the winter months.

Holiday Weekend Fishing and Wildlife Report

I only got to spend a couple of hours this afternoon, but caught 4 beautiful rainbows ranging from 15"-18" in the creek on egg patterns. The last fish that I caught as dusk fell was a large male rainbow with a very beautiful, dark red stripe.

Even more impressive was the number of deer I saw. I more than 10 deer, most of them down around the meadow beyond the lower pond. I had as many as four of them at a time watching me fish.

As I was fishing the Cabin Hole towards dusk, I heard snorting and stomping as I pulled line from my reel, I looked up and saw three deer, very alert and paying very close attention to me, but not running away. They watched me for several minutes before moving off.

The weather is changing, the water has cooled, and it won't be long before the browns move into the riffles to spawn.

Weather change improves fishing

With the recent cooler weather, the water will cool and the fishing will continue to improve. In the next few weeks, the browns will be spawning in the creek, look for them in the tailouts of the pools and try fishing with large streamers. The brookies will be moving into the outflow from the various springs as a staging area for their fall spawning runs.

Great Fishing Continues

Great fishing has continued. Had great luck Saturday July 9th in both the creek and the ponds. Caught a number of fish on both streamers and nymphs. The fish have settled into their summer pattern with the best fishing in the morning and evening. Lots of insect activity and rising fish!
