If you've decided that the feelings you've been having are not "normal" angst and you're unhappy with your life, there are so many options you can take to get help. Congratulations for visiting my site... Researching is quite important to fighting mental illness. But, you definitely don't want to develop "First-Year Med Student Syndrome;" this is when you read about any disease and automatically think you have it. I thought I had prostate cancer when I was little. ;) Somehow, I don't quite think so! You need to talk to someone as soon as you can, because that's the only way to get the help you need. Here are some strategies to start your recovery.
The first step you should take is to talk to your parents and friends about the situation you're in. That's often the hardest thing to do because your family and friends are the people you're closest to. If you're nervous about talking to them first, talk to a teacher or guidance counselor at school; often, they can help you break the ice with your parents and get you pointed in the right direction. Too scary or not in school? Talk to your physician about your symptoms. He/she needs to know what's going on with you and decide if you need to be referred to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Still too threatening? Check out your local mental health clinic and see if they offer a free needs assessment. That's how I first sought help. Or, try calling a crisis line in your area. They're trained to deal with situations like yours. If that's too scary, call a national crisis line, like 1-800-DONTCUT. Remember... You are a valuable person who deserves to be happy. Don't ever feel like you can't get better or don't deserve to get better. If you're considering suicide or harming yourself right now, PLEASE seek help immediately; you're worth it.
