Depression is a medical condition that affects people of all ages. It has a variety of causes, such as stress, illness, loss, chemical imbalances, and family problems. Anxiety, a condition involving severe stress can lead to depression if not treated. Depression is a dangerous and serious disorder because it can lead to suicide attempts by sufferers.
There are plenty of recognizable signs and symptoms of depression. Such symptoms include but are certainly not limited to changes in sleeping habits, changes in appetite, withdrawal from friends and family, loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, persistent sad mood for an extended period of time, changes in behavior, academic or disciplinary problems, drug/alcohol abuse, moodiness, self-injurious behavior, and, most obviously, contemplation of suicide or suicide attempts. If you or someone you know exhibits these symptoms, PLEASE seek help from a parent, a teacher, or another trusted adult. It is crucial that you receive medical attention to make sure your symptoms aren't being caused by something other than mental illness.
Depression CAN be cured if you're willing to get help. Individual therapy, group therapy, and medication are just a few ways to help conquer depression. The biggest steps to take are 1. admitting you are depressed, 2. deciding you want to improve your condition, and 3. seeking help. Your happiness is worth any trouble you must go through to get yourself back on track and feeling good again.
