2009 Trans-Erie Yacht Race

Grosse Ile Yacht Club, Erie Yacht Club, and MORC Station 53 & 31 invite sailors from the Great Lakes to participate in the Trans-Erie Yacht Race, from   Erie, Pennsylvania to Grosse Ile, Michigan.   The race is open to all eligible sailors, with both PHRF , MORC, MULTIHULL and DOUBLEHANDED classes offered.

1. Eligibility

This race is open to monohull yachts with a current, valid PHRF or MORC rating certificate. PHRF classes are open to any monohull yacht with a rating of 225 or lower. Any discrepancies in PHRF ratings due to area differences (i.e. Lake Erie, Essex County, or DRYA) will be resolved by the race committee, whose decision will be final. All yachts racing MORC must have a current member of MORC International on board during the race.

2. Rules

This race will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the U.S. Sailing Association, the MORC Handbook (for MORC classes), and by the sailing instructions.

3. Course

The course will be from the starting line near the Detroit River Light at the northwest corner of Lake Erie,  to the finish at Presque Ile Bay entrance buoy (north of Erie, PA). The course distance for handicapping purposes is 140 nautical miles.

 

4. Special Regatta Rules

4.1 Crew limitations required by PHRF or per the MORC Handbook, section 8, will be in effect for this race.

4.2 Yachts shall carry required equipment as specified by Coast Guard regulations, a VHF Radio capable of receiving and broadcasting on Channel 16 and 71, and in addition for MORC classes, as required by their MORC rating certificate.

5. Awards

Awards will be given for first, second, and third in each class. In addition, an award will be given out for first overall in PHRF.   

6. Sailing Instructions

Sailing instructions will be available here at the transerie website. In addition, sailing instructions and scratch sheets will be available at the skipper’s meeting.

7. Schedule of Events

Monday, August 10 Registration deadline

Friday, August 21, 1400 - Skipper’s meeting – Grosse Ile Yacht Club (tentative - time may change)

1600- First warning gun

Sunday, August 19, 1400 - Awards party - Erie Yacht Club (tentative - time may change)

8. Registration & Fees

Please mail the completed application, a copy of your current PHRF or MORC rating certificate, a proof of yacht liability insurance for your entry, and $99.00 registration fee to:
