Laurie Sharkus is now online!

My friend Laurie Sharkus needed a website to showcase her gorgeous sculpture and I was thrilled to be able to make it for her. She creates smoke-fired clay pieces of endangered animals. Although they look great on the site, they look even better in person. Keep checking her news section often because she hopes to get into some good shows this year. If you see her, tell her I said hi. It won't get you a discount on her work, but what can it hurt?

The King of Cups is coming at last!

I'm still tinkering with the new look but had to pass on this great news. The King of Cups, a novel by James Quina will be getting published very soon. For the latest news, check out its official website. The novel is set in 19th century New Orleans. The author himself is a resident of New Orleans, although Katrina has forced him to relocate. But that hasn't stopped Jim from working hard to getting his novel published. It's a lot of fun to read with some nice illustrations inside by Ken Burke and Chet Johnson. Plus it sports a color cover by yours truly. How cool is that?

Same Lurid talk in new digs

I thought I was done updating for the year, but my buddy in the Cleveland area, Wayne Alan Harold, has moved his zany and fun-filled discussion board to a new address in a new format. Get in dicussions about movies, comics, music, and whatever's on your mind with Wayne, actor and genuine nerd Toby radloff, writer/critic Will Pfeifer, and artists P. Craig Russell, Jay Geldhof, Robert Ullman, and Mark Ricketts. Oh, and me, of course. You'll have to register to post, but the gang will make it worth your while with a warm welcome.

See you there,

John

It's the most wonderful time of the year

With Thanksgiving out of the way, the Christmas season of 2004 has begun. I helped my wife inaugurate the holday with a CD I burned for her featuring some favorite Christmas carols she can listen to. I even made a drawing for the jewel case. It turned out pretty good for a drawing I whipped out in 15 minutes, so I posted in my gallery in the Phony Woodcut section.

I also posted a computer graphic I made for the Christmas coffee mug that the place I work for sends out to clients and employees. You can also see it in my gallery, but in the Miscellaneous section.

I must be in some weird creative mode because I'm almost done with a painting I'm working on for our dining room. Plus I'm in the beginning stages of redesigning this website. I've had this current design now for something like 3 years. I figured it's time for a new look.

I've also updated a few links that have changed on my Links page.

In the meantime, you probably won't be seeing any more updates to the site for the rest of this year. So we'd like to wish you and yours a verry Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Take care,

John and Tammie .

Do you miss the colored leaves on your tree?

Tammie and I love autumn. A month ago, we took a hiking vacation with Tammie's parents to the Adirondacks. You can read about it and see my breathtaking photos by clicking its link on the Photos page.

You gotta have some more art

My brothers and I threw an Oktoberfest get-together for family recently and we intended to have the Schnitzelbank song sung there. Instead of printing out graphics and lyrics from something found online and getting rasterized, low-resolution stuff that's hard to read, I drew the images and redid the text myself. Although we ended up not singing the song, I still like the drawings I did and posted them in my gallery.

Hopefully one day soon, I'll have some updates on this site sometime soon.

You gotta have art

I've known Michael and her husband, Ron, for 20 years now. Wow, has it been that long? I met her at Wayne State University in a relief printmaking class taught by Stanley Rosenthal. She did these beautiful wood engravings. Being a very outgoing person, she introduced herself to me and encouraged me with my endeavors into woodcuts.

I found myself with two new friends who lived in a menagerie of art, books, photography, cats, birds, and whoever else was visiting them at the time. Isoon discovered that she had many artistic talents ranging from drawing and painting to writing and photography.

Now I'm not one of the lucky few to view her work any longer. She has a web site (which I created for her) showcasing her beautiful, subtle watercolor and/or graphite works. It's at www.MichaelWoodFineArts.com.

She loves feedback so let her know how much you like her art. Don't forget to tell her who sent you there.

Take care,
John & Tammie
