Games Workshop Converted Word Bearers Dark Apostle:

Both converted and painted in 2005 for the first Relic Painting & Army Displays Forum Conversion Competition and the second Painting Competition, this is the first figure I'd ever converted outright and the second competition-quality figure I'd painted in about 13 years. The base model is a Games Workshop Space Marine Chaplain in Terminator armor - I got him as gift and so had no qualms about using him as a "guinea pig" for my first stab at real figure conversion. Using the modified arms off two old Chaos Terminators I've had packed away, and following a lot of cutting, gutting, and sculpting of details and bloated flesh, this is the end result here.

I also sculpted the stonework base and the cracked tile effect from scratch on a 40mm round slottabase, and the freehand on both the figure and base are probably the most extensive I've done to date. Although not winning either competition, he was fairly well received and drew a lot of positive comments - it was enjoyable in charting my progress post-competition as I finished up details and created the base.

A Tutorial on the conversion and painting figure and base can be found here.
