In addition, pilots receive an expense allowance, or "per diem", for every hour they are away from home. Per diem can represent up to $500 each month in addition to their salary. Is a college degree necessary? NO! A pilot must be a least a high school graduate To receive a pilots' license you must be 18 years old, have 190 hrs. of flying in training school or 250 hours of flying on your own. Also between 40 and 50 hours of instrument flying is required. The Armed Forces have always been an important source of trained pilots for civilian jobs, persons without armed forces training also become pilots by attending flight schools. |

Pilots fly people and cargo
from place to place. Pilots plan their flight carefully & check their plane to
make sure that it is working properly. Pilots check the weather, then decide
what route they should take (how high and fast they should fly). Planes have computers and many other machines to tell pilots if their trip is going according to plan.
