What's New?

- Hi all!
Castle won the state archery championship again this year. FOUR TIME CHAMPS! Chris is still playing trombone for the marching, jazz and concert bands. Laura is working and busy with her freshman year at the University of Southern Indiana.

- Moved the web site from my AOL space to my home service space. AOL turned off their web hosting with very little warning.
Both Laura and Chris are competing on the Castle Archery team. They won the state championship again this year. TWO TIME CHAMPS! Chris is still playing trombone and marching in the band. They went state finals and finished 9th in Class A, the largest class in state competition. They played at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianaplois Colts.

- Had to get rid of the guestbook. It was catching way too many spam entries. Thanks for signing in the past. I did keep a copy of the legitimate entries.

- Added a few new pics. We've all been busy with school, work and marching band.
Laura is competing on the Castle Archery team. They won the state championship last year and should do well again this year. Chris is playing trombone and marching in the band. They recently qualified for state regionals. The band also just finished a Bands Of America regional competition. They took first place in their class and swept the performance awards. They went on to win the Outstanding Music Performance Award and take the silver medal in overall competition. You can see more pictures from the year at the www.castlebands.org page.
I have also opened a flickr.com page to store my latest pictures. Hopefully, I will keep that more up to date than this page. Click over and check it out at chs_dad

- Finally got motivated and added pictures from our vacation.
- 8/13/2005
- Well, school has started again. Laura is a freshman at Castle High this year and Chris has moved up to 7th grade at Castle Junior High. Wow! I'm really starting to feel old.
As you can see on the front page, we were able to take a vacation to Gatlinburg this year. We all had a great time. Just like last time we were there, we took in the aquarium, hiked in the woods, drove down to Cades Cove and shopped on the strip downtown. We also visited our favorite place for sandwiches to take in the woods, Parton's Deli. It's right next to Hillbilly Golf. I highly recommend it. Hopefully, I can get some pictures up soon.
I also got crazy and decided to finally convert over to css based layouts. There should be only minor changes visible to the user but I think I've made it easier to make updates, not that they will come any quicker.

- We braved a very hot day to go up on Reitz hill and watch the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels display their formation flying skills. The pictures on the main page do not do justice to seeing them in person. If you want more info, click over to www.evansvillefreedomfestival.org.

- Well, our foxes moved out but we are still getting visits from other critters. The picture on the front page shows a deer that wandered through a few nights a go. We also have a skunk as a regular visitor, but I haven't tried to get a picture of him yet.
Chris was one of five Presidential Scholars in the 6th grade this year. He also took home other awards for gpa and music and lots of participation certificates.
Laura turned fifteen this month. Wow! Tempest Fugit.
Shw had a few friends over for the night to celebrate.
After several trips to support with www.godaddy.com, A tech support person found that my IP listing in the dns tables was incorrect. He fixed that and everything is back to normal.
You can also link to www.thepiersonfamily.org to get here in the future.
- 5/18/2005
- As you can see from the picture on the front page, we have a family of foxes living in our backyard. There are 6 kits and 1 or 2 adults. They are a delight to watch as they frolic in the back of the yard.
A while back you saw that Laura had won the spelling bee at her school. She took second in the county bee.
Chris has been busy with band and his guitar lessons. He bought himself a Dean Evo XM electric and has been learning songs from AC-DC, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top and others.
I have also noticed that AOL NamesDirect (the old host) has added popups to their hosting. I apologize for that and will try to get by that some how.
OK, I have determined that there is a domain hosting problem. My old host hasn't given up the listing as they should have. For the near future, link to www.thepiersonfamily.org

- Laura wins the spelling bee. She competes in the county bee soon.

- Put pictures from our day trip to Marengo Cave at Marengo, Indiana.
- 8/29/2003
- Put pictures from our vacation this summer up on the site. Also switched out a banner. My favorite dj went solo. Check out Lexi at her own place, www.modrn.net
Welcome to all the visitors from Fred's newsletter.
- 6/9/2003
- Added some new banners to the index page. One for my favorite radio station, 9412.com. I especially enjoy Lexi's show in the late mornings (for me, she's in Washington state.) Great music and DJs. I especially enjoy Mystery Lyrics and Feature Fridays. The other banner is for Fred Langa's LangaList newsletter. He compiles information about computers and computing that is second to none. It along with the Lockergnome newsletters are must reads. The newsletter is free although he has a subscription for a Plus Edition that is well worth the money. I have not regretted my subscription at all.

- I was recently in Bristol, CT working for a client. They shut the plant down on Sunday and I was able to take short trip up to Fort Devens and Boston, MA. In 1981-1982, I was stationed at Fort Devens while attending the U.S. Army's Intelligence School. I was training for the 33S MOS. A 33S was an Electronic Warfare/Intercept Systems Repairman. After graduation, I was assigned to fix the student radio systems for the Solid State Receiver class. I was even given the opportunity to teach a couple of times. This was while waiting for an add-on class to start before deploying to Augsburg, Germany. The school was later moved to Fort Huachuca, AZ and the post was acquired by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
After tripping down memory lane at Devens, I went into Boston to Fanueil Hall and then over to the Fish Pier and ate at the Barking Crab.

- Updates twice in one week! We went to the IU Barnstorming Tour last night at Boonville High School.
It was an exhibition basketball game featuring IU seniors and other former players against local area high school seniors and college players.
IU's Damon Bailey, Tom Coverdale, Jeff Newton and Kyle Hornsby with others from ISU and IUSE played
Castle's J.T. Scholl and Chris Hale along with players from Princeton, Boonville and other
area high schools. It was a fun evening. They had an autograph session with the IU players afterward. Chris got a shirt signed by all 4 of the guys.

- AT LONG LAST!! New content. Reworked some of the stuff and added some new pictures. :)
It's been a while, but we're still around. Laura is almost 13 and Chris just turned 10.
Cindy and Kerry... well let's just say we're older. Tempest Fugit!
The kids are doing well at school and busy at many extracurricular activities. Basketball,
Girl Scouts, etc. Cindy and I have been busy volunteering as well. If you read my rant
below from back in 2000 about the school, you should see it now. The school was remodeled
and expanded. Boy, does it look great. I helped Chris' class put up a web site. Check it
out at Yankeetown Elementary. Be
sure to check out Mrs. Kramers Fourth Grade Class!
- 9/24/2000
- Added an option on the slideshows to view them in an auto mode
at 2 second intervals. It was fun to program :)
Okay, Okay. So, it didn't work quite as planned. It worked great at home
off of the hard drive. Modems really slow things up. The images needed to be preloaded.
I'll have to work on that. Preloading can be slow.
- 9/23/2000
- Finally had the last of the vacation pictures developed. Added last of the
Grissom Air Museum pictures.
- 9/11/2000
- Not much new happening. School continues for the kids. Cindy is becoming an activist.
The Warrick County School Corporation, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that little ole
Yankeetown Elementary can carry on in its present state for yet another year. Never mind
that it has been over thirty years since any work has been done on it. Leaky roof, no
air-conditioning in the gym or hallways, teachers using the hallway because there
isn't room in their room, no art room, no music room, only two bathrooms for 300
kids etc. etc. etc. The parents are uniting and carrying our message to the school
board.
Added x of y numbers to the slide shows. I am working on an automatic show choice as well.
- 8/30/2000
-
I had a wild notion and added a section for the kids school memories.
Check it out. I also got rid of the frames methods I used to display the
pages. I still have to use tables a lot. I wanted to use Cascading Style Sheets
(CSS) but they are not supported well enough by Netscape or Microsoft to
use without double coding the html. And the whole point of CSS is save space
and be consistent. Oh well. Removed
- 8/3/2000
- Okay, so it's been more than the near future! We have been busy. I've been working
out of town, although I am home at night. Chris has finished up baseball and Laura
and Chris took swimming lessons, Cindy has been working. We all have been busy at church.
In fact, VBS just finished.
We were able to take a few days and go to Chicago. We took in a Cubs game,
the Navy Pier, the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum. On the way home, we zipped over
to South Bend and toured the campus of Notre Dame, Lunkers in Michigan and the Grissom
Air museum. There are pictures of some of these sights on the pictures page.
Speaking of the pictures page, I completely revamped the page. It now has pop-up windows
with navigation buttons. I have been experimenting with Javascript programming
and was trying to cut down on the amount of pages required to put on a slide show. I have
been able to go from an individual page per picture to a single page for a
group of pictures with code to switch the images and captions. I hope you like the effect.
It's certainly much easier to put a slide show up now.
- 5/15/2000
- Again, it has been a while. There are some new pictures of Laura's bedroom remodeling and the kid's
Spring Program at school. There will be more pics of each in the future.
Chris has started playing baseball again. He is on the Follas Labs team.
Will post more in the near future.
- 4/1/2000
- It's been a while but there are some "new" pictures. They aren't exactly
newly taken but they are new to the site, so check 'em out.
There is also a section of pictures that Laura has taken in the past. Will be
working on a page for Chris later.
School is going by fast. The kids just finished spring break. No trips, but they
weren't home much anyway. Cindy and I both worked. Cindy was off three days and I was
able to take off Friday.
Chris turned a whopping 7 years old last Sunday, the 26th of March. He also started
baseball practice last week. He is on the Follas Labs team in the pitching machine
league of Newburgh Junior Baseball.
- 2/12/2000
- Added a guestbook. Please sign.
- 2/6/2000
- Added a counter and added some older pictures to pages under the pictures page and
added nav buttons for the pix. Still working on it. Hope to have a guest book working
soon. Removed the music from all but the main page. Got annoying, didn't it?!
- 2/1/2000
- My how time flies...! I've added pictures to the pictures page. More to come.
- 1/31/2000
- This page is what's NEW! We survived Christmas and Y2k (yawn). The kids are back
in school and Cindy and I are back at work. I've managed to find a little time to
work on our page.
