Information about the breed

1. Puppies will chew on almost anything.  My puppy chewed on our drywall.  So please remember to have lots of chew toys and keep your pup in a crate when not supervised until the teething stops and they are potty trained.

2. German Shepherds shed a great deal.  They have 2 very large sheds, one in spring and on in fall.  Keep in mind you will have to brush your dog regularly and hair will be around the house.

3. I can’t stress enough the importance of enrolling your puppy into some type of training.  This will help socialize your pup and help you better understand how to control your pup, especially learning how to walk on a leash.

4. Your pup will need regular exercise, please stay active but don’t over do it.  Also choose a good food for growing pups, make sure it is not adult dog food. Follow the feeding directions and do not over/under feed.

5. Please have your puppy micro-chipped.  The fee is small and it can save you loads of trouble if your dog is lost or picked up by local authorities.

6.  German Shepherds have a great chase drive and are very smart, loyal dogs.  They need a great deal of socialization and rely on humans for it. The German Shepherd needs to be with humans, it is not the type of dog you can leave outside or alone for prolonged periods of time.
