Welcome to the SUMMIT
Sports Club! VISION & PURPOSE "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14 The SUMMIT Sports Club is a Christian homeschool athletic program that began in 1994 to provide junior and senior high school-age students with the opportunity to participate in competitive team sports. Our Vision Statement is presented on our Home Page of this website. The sports club began with Men’s Basketball, but has grown to include Men’s Soccer and Lady’s Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball. We also fielded a Men’s Baseball Team for several years until we did not have enough interest to support that program. We are pleased to report that we have a Men’s Varsity Fast Pitch Baseball team this year that is having a great season!! Teams are selected through a try-out process and compete with Christian schools in the metro-Detroit area and participate in local, regional, and national homeschool tournaments. The following sports will be offered during the 2005-2006 season:
Lady’s Volleyball (Season is November 2005 – March 2006) (14-18 years of age as of 9/1/2005) If there is enough interest, we will be fielding a Junior High Lady’s Volleyball team this year for young ladies who are 12-14 years of age as of 9/1/2005. Men’s Baseball (Season is March 2006 – June 2006) (14-18 years of age as of 9/1/2005) Lady’s Soccer (Season is March 2006 – June 2006) (14-18 years of age as of 9/1/2005) Lady’s Basketball (Season is August 2005– November 2005) (14-18 years of age as of 9/1/2005)
TRY-OUTS The SUMMIT Sports Club is a competitive program, which means that players try-out for team positions and earn their playing time. Try-outs are held at the beginning of each sports season. Because this is a competitive program, we make every effort to put teams together with players who have comparable and complimentary skill levels. Experience has taught us that constructing teams in this manner encourages the players to work hard, challenge each other to excellence, and improve their skills. TEAM MEMBERSHIP Each player that becomes part of a team is required to submit paperwork by the stated deadline that is included in the Registration Packet that they receive. Included in this packet is: Registration Form & Medical Waiver, Player Contract & Guidelines, Homeschool Eligibility Form, and ID Medical Card. In addition, all players must have a current Sports Physical in their file in order to participate in practices and games. PRACTICES & GAMES Teams practice 3-4 days each week at the beginning of each season. Once games begin, the practice schedule is adjusted by the coaches based on the need for practices. Once the season is in full swing, family’s should expect to be at practices/games 3-4 days per week. We do not schedule games or practices on Wednesdays or Sundays. Occasionally, there will be games scheduled on Saturdays. Games are played throughout the Metro-Detroit area with Christian schools and other homeschool teams. In the past, we have also traveled to the State Homeschool tournaments and the National Basketball Tournament in Oklahoma. PARTICIPATION FEES Although this is an all volunteer program, our coaching staff is selected based on experience and a working knowledge of the sport. If you are interested in a coaching position, please contact Paul Rossi. You will then be asked to complete an application form and go through an interview and selection process. All coaches sign and abide by the SUMMIT Sports Club Coach Contract. NON-PROFIT STATUS Since its inception, the sports club has always been a not-for-profit program funded completely through registration fees and fund raising events. In January, 2003, we became a non-profit organization – SUMMIT Sports Club, Inc. We are presently in the process of securing 501(c)(3) status, which will provide us with the opportunity to receive charitable donations that will be tax deductible. FUND RAISING All players pay registration and team fees, however, these fees DO NOT cover all of the expenses of the sports club’s annual budget. All players and their family's are also required to participate in at minimum of two fund raising events during the 2005-2006 season. Players can opt out of fund raising by paying an additional fee per sports team per season they participate. ANNUAL ALL SPORTS BANQUET In May of each year, we hold an All Sports Banquet for all the family's in the sports club. At the banquet, players are recognized for their contributions to the team. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Summit Sports Club is an all volunteer organization. This means that we need the active involvement of EVERYONE in the program to make this all work. There are lots of ways to help and parents are encouraged to sign-up in some capacity at the beginning of each season at the Registration Meeting. WEBSITE: http://summitsportsclub.net The SUMMIT Sports Club now has a presence on the web. The site will be updated each season to include schedules and game directions. SPORTS ALTERNATIVES For those players who are not able to make a commitment to a competitive program or who do not make a team this year, we want to encourage you to pursue your interest in sports by taking advantage of the many opportunities available in our area. Please e-mail us for an updated list of Team Sports Alternatives. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us! Pressing towards the mark,
