I'm Marc Myers and this is my attempt at creating a "web presence"
for me and my family.
| Ancient History Dept: |
I'm a data processing consultant ("contract programmer"), working
for Telemap Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. My current assignment is at
ICI Paints ("Glidden"), where I'm working on both batch and online
IDMS mainframe systems. I'm the lead programmer/analyst on the Year2000
project, which should keep my very busy for the next couple of years. |
I am currently the CEO, owner, programmer, sales dept., bookkeeper,
secretary, custodian, and general factotum of AppleScriptsToGo,
a one-man operation dedicated to providing clients with quick and efficient
consulting in matters of designing, creating, and maintaining automated
work-flow systems using the wonderful Inter-Applications Communications
system built into the Macintosh operating system.
My hobbies include dog training, gardening, target shooting, reading
and watching science fiction, and trying to understand how I got to be
a middle-aged, divorced father of a teenage daughter. The last time I looked
I was an adolescent! The time in-between seems pretty vague. Do you remember
the 60's? If you do, you probably weren't participating.
Abby, my daughter, is
my pride and joy. She started as a freshman at Ohio State University last
year (2000) at the tender age of 16. It's good to know that you've done
at least one thing right in your life! Her dog, Cadfael,
is my dog's best friend and the most accomplished thief and liar I've ever
known in the canine world. A thoroughly loveable scoundrel! Abby is much
better behaved than her dog (as far as I know).
I have a nine-year-old German
Shepherd named Kivo, who is quite intelligent
and displays no signs of maturing past the mental stage of a normal 2-year-old.
Since a 2-year-old German Shepherd is the ideal combination of obedience
and fun he makes the perfect companion. I also had a Newfoundland
who reached the venerable age of thirteen less one week. His name was Waldo. Dogs play a prominent role in our lives
As part of my preoccupation with placing myself in the universe,
I've become very interested in Buddhism and in the sad history of the Chinese
invasion of Tibet. The 14th Dalai
Lama, the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people and winner
of the Nobel Peace Prize, is my personal hero. He is one of the three greatest
guys in the universe. I've been trying diligently to find out who the other
two are.
My
other personal hero is my late best friend, companion, protector, and teacher,
Levitation's Samuel Clemens, know to his many admirers simply as "Sam".
(Unknown to most people, he was actually Mahasamatman, "Great-Souled
Sam".) Born into our lives in 1973 and and leaving us in 1983, Sam
had more wisdom, insight, and sense of humor than any creature that could
be called a "dog". Sam was something more, and everyone who knew
him knew it. A Sam memorial page will be appearing here soon. For a full-screen
version of this Sam picture, click here.
Find a long-lost friend! I got re-connected
with a friend I hadn't seen in fifteen years, two days after registering
with Four11.
