is in the Libraries/Instructional Design Studio at the University of Detroit Mercy. Specifically, I am a behind-the-scenes librarian in the Cataloging/Database Management Department of the McNichols Campus Library. Whereas librarians at the reference desk will tell you where to go (in a nice way, one would hope!) to find the sources you need, I work to make sure that the information on those online databases that have virtually replaced card catalogs is accurate and doesn't steer those reference librarians wrong! (I cringe to think what would happen if such power fell into the wrong hands 8-@ ! )
I enjoy shattering myths and defying stereotypes about librarians! Toward that end, I invite you to check out these sites. If nothing else, they prove that librarians have a sense of humor -- especially about themselves!
Bellydancing Librarian: A website created and maintained by Eris Weaver, herself an "information scientist" with a full-bodied sense of rhythm!
Library System Terrorizes Publishing Industry: A pictorial tale from Tom the Dancing Bug. Kinda makes you think, especially considering the continuing love/hate relationship that musicians and music afficionados have with downloadable music sites and policing agencies such as RIAA.
Overdue Laughs: A very comprehensive companion site to this section of Yahoo!
Unshelved (The Website Formerly Known As Overdue Media): a musician friend in the publishing business referred me to this site. I must say, the musings in this comic strip aren't much different from some of the conversations I have with my coworkers -- we're such a droll and witty bunch! 8-)
If you have any questions relating to libraries or librarianship in general (or if you have suggestions for the web pages at my workplace), please feel free to email me at mclonika@udmercy.edu
