I endeavor to use my photography to share with others, the beauty I see in the world. I have used a Nikon FG, as well as point and shoot 35mm cameras and am now using a Minolta Dimage 7 digital camera. I also use a high resolution flatbed scanner and a high resolution ink jet printer. I tend to use photo imaging software for standard darkroom techniques, but not for special effects types of manipulation. The computer is well suited to such manipulation but no amount of computer power can make up for a poorly visualized image. Therefore, I feel that the computer's best use is in doing more quickly and efficiently, the same tasks which are commonly done in a more conventional darkroom. It is my feeling that digital darkrooms will gain acceptance if this line of thinking is followed by serious photographers. Too many photographers are using the computer's power to make "impossible images", and while they certainly can be interesting and challenging, they are not what traditional photography is all about. On the other hand the computer can be used to make the photograper's work easier in the "darkroom" and make more time available for the finding of powerful images, which in the end is what photography is all about....a way of manipulating light and shadow to move men's souls.
