*************** ** RunNums ** *************** RunNums Version 1.1 Copyright 2000 Timothy Lipetz lipetz@netset.com Recent versions and other software are available at: http://www.netset.com/~lipetz Overview: RunNums is a simple but involving game in which you try to move the cursor over a grid of digits without hitting the edge or your own trail. RunNums uses PocketC from http://www.orbworks.com. Installation: Remove any older copy of RunNums before installing RunNums 1.1. Also remove any high scores data base, which can be found in PocketC-->Databases-->RunNumsDB. Legal Stuff: RunNums is Freeware. This means I retain the copyright, but allow copies of the program to be freely distributed provided they are unmodified and are not used for commercial purposes. This RunNums.txt file must accompany all distributions. If you wish to include RunNums in a collection of shareware/freeware, please contact me with the particulars. I reserve all rights to RunNums and allow its distribution and use only under the above conditions. I make no warrantees about suitability of the program for any use, nor do I assume any responsibility for any consequences of its use. The Real Stuff: Even though the program is free, I would like to know how much it is being used. So, please send me email if you like it. (Or if you don't like it, let me know why and I'll consider an enhanced release.) That's not much to ask in exchange for a free program. Thanks, lipetz@netset.com. Playing: At the start of each round RunNums fills the screen with a grid of digits (14 rows x 32 columns), and places the cursor at a random location. Tap one of the four edges of the screen to move the corresponding direction (N,E,S,W), or tap one of the four corners to move along the diagonals (NW, NE, SE, SW). The first digit in that direction determines how far you will go in that direction. The cursor will leave a trail of inverted digits as it moves. (Note: always tap a corner or edge to move; do NOT tap relative to the current cursor position.) Goal: The goal is to fill as much of the screen as possible with inverted digits. If you run into an edge or your own trail, the play stops. Your score is the percent of the screen covered. The High Scores are kept in a database on the PalmPilot. (Hint! If you space it correctly, you can cross one diagonal with another - just as long as they don't use the same digit anywhere.) Options: The only option is what level to play. The levels differ by what digits they give you on the grid. (Small digits are easier than big ones.) The levels are: - 1 digits 1 to 5 - 2 digits 1 to 7 - 3 digits 1 to 9 - 4 digits 2 to 9 - 5 digits 3 to 9 - 6 digits 4 to 9 The top of the screen shows: Level Number and Percent Covered - Tap either one to see the high scores. (or reset scores if you want) Help - Tap to see copyright information, a help screen, and the current high scores. History: Version 1.0 - 3/98 - all the basic features Version 1.1 - 5/00 - uses own launch icon My High Scores: I've been playing for a couple of weeks and these are my high scores. - 1 84% - 2 76% - 3 64% - 4 56% - 5 46% - 6 39% Timothy Lipetz 3/9/98
