The Pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church was called to Bethel
church, four miles south of Benton Sunday afternoon, to preach the funeral
sermon over the body of Mrs. Sophia Doty, who died Sept. 3, at the home of
her daughter, at the advanced age of 94 years. She was born in North Carolina
in the year 1815 where she grew to womanhood, marrying the Rev. John Doty
of her native state, in 1839. They afterwards came to Illinois settling on
a farm near Benton, where they brought up their family. Mrs. Doty was a member
of Bethel Methodist Episcopal church for more than half a century. During
the last 12 years she has been bed-ridden, and was most tenderly cared for
by her only surviving daughter, Mrs. Keith. Besides Mrs. Keith, two sons
survive, Daniel who is a farmer in the state of Oklahoma, and the Rev. Hiram
Doty of Oklahoma City, who is the district superintendent of the Geary district
Oklahoma conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Besides the children,
there are a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who mourn her
loss. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of people, and the remains
were laid to rest in the cemetery at Bethel church, to await the resurrection

Retired Farmer Dies At His Home Sunday---Is Buried At Benton This Morning.
Daniel Wesley Doty, retired farmer and for many years a resident of West Frankfort, died at 12:15 oíclock Sunday, at his home, 608 West St. Louis street. He was eighty years and seventeen days old. Mr. Doty, who was the son of the Rev. And Mrs. John Doty, was born in North Carolina, August 14, 1844. His father was a pioneer Methodist minister. Just before the outbreak of the Civil War, Daniel Doty came to Illinois,making his home first in Union county, About thirty-five years ago he moved into Franklin county. Mr. Doty participated in the Civil War. For three years he served in the Union Army, being a member of the 13th Illinois Cavalry. While in the army he was stricken with spinal meningitis and in company with fifty-four other soldiers who were ill with the same dread disease, he was isolated at Camp Butler. Of the entire group, Mr. Doty and one other comrade were the only two to escape death from the disease.
Max Doty CHANDLER, Ind. ó Max J. Doty, 82, died Tuesday,
Aug. 10, 1999, at St. Maryís Medical Center in Evansville. He retired
from International Steel in 1979. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Gladys;
three daughters, Martha Young of Chandler, and Maxine Woodruff and Mary Harris,
both of Evansville; three sons, Paul of Boonville, and John and James, both
of Newburgh; a sister, Mary Virginia Stallion of West Frankfort, Ill.; four
brothers, Earl of Urbana, Ill., Robert of Trenton, Mich., John of Evansville
and Dan Kirsch of Newburgh; 30 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and
nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist
Catholic Church, with entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville. Friends
may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m., and
from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Koehler Funeral Home Perigo Chapel. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the church.

Riley S.Baize, 52 of 13 S. Fares Av, World War veteran who served 18 months
in France, died Friday in the Marine Hospital after a nine weeks illness
of a heart ailment.
He belonged to Post 1114, veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors are: The widow, Mary Mae; a son, James; sisters, Mrs William
Carter, Owensboro, Ky, and Mrs. Thomas Condor, Evansville; brothers, John,
Edward and Dee, and grandchildren, Betty Jean, Donald and Robert Baize.
The body will be returned from Ziemerís Funeral Home at 4pm
friday to
the home for funeral services at 7:30am Monday. Continued services at 8am
in St. Benedictís Catholic Church and Military burial services in
St. Joseph cemetery.

James Baize
Evansville resident James W. Baize died Tues day Oct. 5 at 8:35
p.m. at Medco Center of Evansville North. He was 81.
He owned and operated the J.W. Baize & Sons Radio and Television
Service where he retired from.
He was a charter member of the Evansville Chamber of Commerce
and
a member of Ethics in Television Committee.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Fern Lucille: three
sons,
James C. Baize of Boonville, Robert W. Baize and Donald W. Baize,
both of Evansville; a daughter, Betty Doty of Evansville; 12
grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 8 at Alexander Funeral
Home First Chapel. The Rev. Gaylon Price officiated.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemtery. Memorial contributions may be made to
the Vanderburgh County Humane Society.

Rev. A. H. Doty
Funeral rites for Rev. A.H. Doty, 79 years old, Pioneer
Methodist minister, were conducted Friday afternoon at
Wesley Methodist church. Burial was at Fairlawn cemetery.
Mr. Doty was the last charter member of the North
Oklahoma Methodist conference, organized in 1892.
During his active connection with the conference,
he served many charges in various
parts of Oklahoma, the last of which was in Blackburn.
He retired in 1924, moving to his home here, 1322
West Twenty-third street, where he resided until his
weath last Tuesday.

Funeral services for the Rev. H. A. Doty, 79, will be
held at the Wesley Methodist Church at 2 p.m, Friday.
The body is at the Street & Draper Funeral Home.
He was the last surviving charter member of the North
Oklahoma Methodist Conference.
Rev. Doty came to Oklahoma in 1892 when transferred
from the Kansas Conference. He established his home here
in 1905. He died late Tuesday at Wesley Hospital.
He is survived by five sons and seven daughters. Two
daughters and a son made their home with him in the
1300 block W. 23rd St.

Rev. Hiram A. Doty Goes To His Reward
The many friends of Rev. H. A. Doty will regret to learn that this
Pioneer
Methodist preacher, after a brief illness, passed away on Tuesday, November
5,
at the age of 79 years.
He was born in Illinois in 1850, became a member of the Methodist ministry
in
1887, came to Kansas in the late 80ís, to Oklahoma in 1892, was one
of the last
three living members of the first Okla. Conference, and served as secretary,
statistcal secretary of this conference at various times, was a delegate to
the
General Conference in 1900 and again in 1912, served as presiding elder or
district superintendent nine years, and filled numerous pastorates.
Funeral services were held in Wesley Church on Friday following his
death.
Interment was in Fairlawn.
He is survived byh five sons and seven daughters. Two daughters and
a son made
their home with him in the 1300 block W. 23-St.
