Forest of Blood: Chapter 2

The night was anything but comfortable as they camped. It was damp, cold and miserable. They couldn't keep a fire going so they huddled in their armor and took turns keeping watch and sleeping as best they could. After breaking camp, they ate breakfast as they walked - dried meat and some water.

Cromar ate in silence, reflecting on the previous day's revelations. With some foreboding, he wondered if that was all, or if there might be something else that would happen today.

"Knight or not, it would be nice to have a quiet day after such a miserable night's rest. And this forest..", he thought. He shivered, unsure if it was from the chill in air or the thought of the forest, itself.

As they traveled along the narrow path through the forest, Jedrik smiled, "We ought to be through the forest by noon tomorrow. We should also be meeting our guide, soon. They will take us safely to the Elvin lands." Glancing to the younger knight Jedrik observed, "You've been awfully quiet, lad. That's not like you."

Cromar grinned, "I'm learning the benefits of not being so quick to speak. It gives me more time to think."

The two knights chuckled in unison and the older knight nodded, "Aye, lad. That it does. And it lets you notice that which you might otherwise be too busy to see."
