keeps busy entertaining throughout the Fox Valley area. They sing some "golden oldies", but they also get a bit " modern" with some songs from the '30s and '40s. The Grandfather's recently received the 2002 Illinois District Ed Wilson Quartet Service Award. This award has been given since 1970. Each year, it is given to a quartet that has unselfishly given their services to the society, the district, their chapters and the public in general.
The Grandfather's Clock Quartet has been a mainstay of the Elgin Chapter of Barbershoppers since 1987. As a senior quartet, Grandfather's Clock is available for daytime performances and has entertained at most senior centers, nursiing homes and service organizations in the Fox Valley Area. They also have been to many area high schools to promote barbershop music to the students and teachers. All members are still active in the Elgin Barbaershop Chapter and collectively have held every office on the board at one time or another. They also serve as a learning quartet to help teach new songs to the chapter and always sing their share of love songs on Valentin's Day as a means of raising funds for the local chapter and the Society's Harmony Foundation
STEWART CROCKETT, tenor, is a retired District U-46 school social worker. He has been a barbershopper for 29 years.
HARRY SWENSON, lead, has been a barbershopper for 25 years. Harry is one of two arrangers in the quartet. He is a retired ElkGrove High School choral music teacher.
EARL CARLSON, our new baritone, has sung in barbershop quartets and other musical groups for many years. He is a semiretired engineer who's specialty is heat-treating metals.
DENNIS TOREN,who winds out the group as bass, is the youngest, and newest member of the quartet. He also is a retired science teacher and has been singing barbershop harmony for 24 years.
