First term was spent as a Radar Technician on F-106 interceptor. Second term was Flight Simulator Technician on F-4C Phantom flight simulator, an analog/digital hybrid. Duties included maintenance on the analog portion of the simulator, but were primarily programming and maintenance on the digital computer portion. Programmed in FORTRAN on a SEL 32/55 computer. Created a database for tracking use of the simulator by aircrew members. Developed operating system utilities including a text editor. Made enhancements to the navigation system software that were distributed to F-4C/D model simulators across the country.
Also served as Electronic Integrated System Mechanic (WG-13) 1983-4. This was a full-time civilian position corresponding to part-time military position above. Performed similar duties, with more emphasis on electronic maintenance of the analog portion of the simulator.
