Digital Cable Troubleshooting
Please
walk through the troubleshooting solutions below if
you do not have a picture, have a distorted picture,
have no sound, or your Digital Cable Receiver does not
respond.
No
picture:
1
Turn the tv on.
2 Tune the tv to channel 3 (or channel 4 in Cleveland)
or Video 1, Line 1 if you used an rca cord.
3 Check to see if your tv, vcr and Digital Cable Receiver
are plugged into an electrical outlet that is controlled
by a wall switch. If it is, make sure the switch is
turned on.
4 Verify that all cable cords are properly connected.
You may want to walk through your connection diagram
again.
5 If you are using an rca cord, make sure the vcr is
on
(set to video 1 or Line 1).
Distorted
picture:
1
Tune the tv to channel 3 (or channel 4 in Cleveland)
or Video 1, Line 1 if you used an rca cord.
2 Verify that all cable cords are properly connected.
You may want to walk through your connection diagram
again.
No
sound:
1
Check to make sure the volume is turned up.
2 Review all suggestions from no picture.
3 Press the tv button then the mute button. Verify the
mute button is not activated.
Digital
cable receiver does not respond:
1
Check to see if your tv, vcr and Digital Receiver are
plugged into an electrical outlet that is controlled
by a wall switch. If it is, make sure the switch is
turned on.
2 Verify that all cable cords are properly connected.
3 Press the power button on the Digital Cable Receiver.
If you were unsuccessful in your
attempts to program the Digital Remote to work (meaning
the device did not automatically turn off ), please
follow the steps below.
1
Turn on the device in question.
2 Point the Digital Remote directly at the device you
are programming. Using the Digital Remote, press the
device button (tv, vcr or aux button) and the select
button simultaneously and hold for 3 seconds.
The device led button on the Digital Remote
will turn on to indicate that it is ready for programming.
3 Press the ch+ one channel at a time until the
device automatically shuts off.
4 Immediately, store your code by pressing the device
button (tv, vcr or aux) a final time.
The
led button will blink twice to confirm the code
has been stored.
VCR
Quick-Record Troubleshooting
VCR
did not turn on:
1 Make sure the vcr Commander is properly pointed to
the vcr sensor. Use your vcr Owner™s Manual to locate
the vcr sensor.
2 If there are additional brand codes, press the blue
square button and repeat step 6, number 2 through 14,
on pages 12-13.
3 If there are no additional brand codes, go to Quick-Record
Code Troubleshooting.
VCR
did not record:
1 Press yellow triangle button and if there are additional
code choices for your brand of vcr, enter the next code
from the list and press the select button. Repeat the
maintenance test.
2 If there are no additional brand codes, go to Quick-Record
Code Troubleshooting.
If
none of the codes turned on the power to your vcr, follow
the steps below:
1
Enter the code 0-0-0-0.
2 Press select.
note: The vcr code library will be scanning,
so this step may take several minutes.
3
Wait until this process is complete.
4 Slowly and repeatedly press the select button and
wait for the vcr to turn on.
5 Manually hold the vcr Commander so the light bulb
is pointed directly at the vcr sensor and enter the
code from Step #1 and press select.
6 Your vcr should automatically turn on (off if you
turn your tv on through your vcr). Press
the yellow triangle button to complete the setup.
If
your vcr did not turn on, please do the following:
-If you have additional codes, point the vcr Commander
bulb directly toward the vcr sensor and press select
and enter the next code.
-Reposition your vcr Commander so that the bulb is pointed
directly at the vcr sensor. Press select and re-enter
code.
7 Complete the following test to confirm that the vcr
Quick-Record feature is activated.
- Insert a blank tape into the vcr.
- Turn the vcr off.
- Press the cbl button and then the select button on
the remote control to begin recording.
- Wait for the recording process to begin.
- Press select.
When your vcr begins recording, the vcr
Quick-Record feature is activated.

Now you can secure your vcr Commander device to your
vcr. Peel back the adhesive strip on the vcr Commander
and secure it to your vcr.
9 The vcr Commander device in now in place.
Basic
Cable Receiver Re-Connection Troubleshooting
Please
walk through the troubleshooting solutions below if
you do not have a picture, have a distorted picture,
have no sound, or your Basic Cable Receiver does not
respond.
No picture:
1
Make sure the tv is on.
2 Make sure your Basic Cable Receiver is on.
3 Tune the tv to channel 3 (channel 4 in Cleveland).
4 Check to see if your tv, vcr, and Basic Cable Receiver
are plugged into an electrical outlet that is controlled
by a wall switch. If it is, make sure the switch is
turned on.
5 Verify that all cables are properly connected. You
may want to walk through your connection steps again.

Basic
Remote Troubleshooting
If
you were unsuccessful in attempting to program the remote
to work with any device (the device did not automatically
turn off ), please follow the steps below.
1 Make sure to try all the 3-digit codes listed for
your device.
2 If your device still does not respond. Perform the
following:
- Turn on your device.
- Press mode button until the light for the device you
are programming is lit. Hold down the select and menu
buttons together until the device light stays on. Release
select and menu.
- Press the ch+ button until the device turns off.
- Press the power button on the Basic Remote. If the
device turns on, press select to lock in the code.
- If the device does not turn on, press ch slowly until
it turns on and press select to lock in the device code.
If
your Basic Remote is not responding, please check the
following:
1 Make sure you have a clear path to the device you
are trying to control.
2 Check to see that the Basic Remote is in the right
device mode. Press the mode button until the correct
device is lit.
3 Make sure the batteries are working properly. Press
any button. If the mode light flashes, replace the batteries.
Basic
VCR Quick-Record Troubleshooting
If
your vcr does not automatically turn on, follow the
steps below:
1

option 1 (try a new code) and enter each of the
remaining codes until your vcr turns on.
2 If the new codes for your vcr do not work:

- Press select again, slowly and repeatedly until the
vcr turns on.

Basic Cable Receiver Setup Troubleshooting
Review
the solutions below if you do not have a picture, have

No Sound:

- If the device does not turn on, press ch slowly until
it turns on and press sel button to lock in the device
code.
If
your Basic Remote is not responding, please check the
following:
1 Make sure you have a clear path to the device you
are trying to control.
2 Check to see that the Basic Remote is in the right
device mode. Press the mode button until the correct
device is lit.
3 Make sure the batteries are working properly. Press
any button. If the mode light flashes, replace the batteries.
